The one year certificate program lays a lot of emphasis on skill development of the students that equip them with knowledge, skills and abilities related to textiles, product design, clothing production techniques, on the provision of insight into fashion trends and the development of marketable clothing ranges. After completion of the one year certificate a student has the opportunity to work as - Fashion Designer, Entrepreneur, Pattern Maker, Sampling Co-odinator, Fashion Co-ordinator, Fashion Stylist, Freelancer, Accessory Designer, Production Supervisor Etc.

Course Objective

A broad based understanding of the subject together with a fundamental knowledge of textiles and business administration is required to be successful in the clothing business. Practice oriented skills are essential for those intending to work in the technical and theoretical areas of fashion design.

Furthermore, insight into target groups is decisive for successfully positioning products on the market. Similarly crucial is the ability to maintain quality standards, especially given the increased globalization of procurement markets.

Students majoring on Design see themselves as developers of clothing and fashion. They will be provided with in-depth training in the techniques of fashion design. The main elements of the course focus on the development of marketable clothing ranges,on the provision of insight into fashion trends, the creation of innovative concepts and the product and market oriented realization of these.

The Department of Fashion Design & Technology organized a display on "Stylized Fashion Illustration with Indian Embroidery Product Development" based on their summer project where students are encouraged to move beyond realistic representation towards expressive, conceptual product development. Students explore advanced rendering and stylization techniques, incorporating it on canvas boards and theme-based representations to convey the essence of their design narrative.Central to the project is the integration of Indian embroidery, a rich tradition with diverse regional forms. Students are tasked with selecting embroideries such as Kasuti, Kashida, Gujarat, Sindhi taropa & Kantha, applying traditional techniques in product development giving a contemporary touch translating the concepts into tangible products.This holistic approach ensures students develop not only technical proficiency but also critical thinking and communication skills. The complete project is a collection that maintains a cohesive theme, color palette, and detailing by linking design thinking with cultural heritage.The display prepares students for the visualization and presentation for future aspects with artistic techniques to capture the tactile quality of stylized illustration on canvas & embroidery on fabric evolving fashion landscape.

Celebrating National Handloom Day: Students Engage with India’s Rich Textile Traditions

Department of Fashion Design & Technology organized a visit for students to "Know Your Weaves Campaign 2025" at the National Crafts Museum the at the "National Crafts Museum & Hastkala Academy", which was organized by the Ministry of Textiles to celebrate "National Handloom Day" where students had an enriching experience in understanding the stunning collection & witness the hand block-printed and hand-painted garments made from organic cotton, highlighting India's rich textile heritage. Students learned about various handloom techniques, natural fibers to yarns & fabrics made with different methods enhanced with beautiful intricate hand embroideries. Students got exposure to students emphasizing the importance of sustainable and eco-friendly practices in the textile industry, featuring exhibits on circular, low-impact textile systems anchored in indigenous knowledge and ecological responsibility. Students also witnessed the first-ever Jamdani Exposition offering an exclusive glimpse into the intricate artistry of Bangladesh’s most celebrated weave. The visit inspired students to incorporate traditional craftsmanship into their modern design practices, promoting a distinctive fusion of cultural authenticity and contemporary elegance.

Fashion Students Explore India's Heritage at The Kunj

Department of Fashion Design & Technology students visited "The Kunj" an Indian traditional cultural destination in New Delhi that celebrates India's artisanal heritage, focusing on traditional crafts and weaves.The Kunj featured top designers reinterpreting traditional Indian silhouettes like the kurti & sari, blending them with contemporary style & many more style to witness. Students could explore the masterpieces showcased by national awardees, shilp gurus, and craftsmen. This visit was a platform for students to witness Indian traditional crafts to further contemporize these traditional designs in designing projects & making them functional and relevant to today's fashion scene.

Hands-on Innovation: 3D Garment Development & Display by Second-Year Fashion Students

The Department of Fashion Design organised an activity on "3D Garment Development and its Display" for second year students. The main objective of this activity was to provide fashion students with hands-on experience in 3D garment development and its visual merchandising. Students worked in teams to design and develop a fashion product, considering target market, material requirement & costing. This activity provided students with valuable experience in product development with essential skills in designing and construction and further showcased their products creating effective appealing displays.

Weaving Creativity: Fashion Students Win Big at Handloom Saree Styling Competition

Department of Fashion Design & Technology students participated in "Style Your Handloom Saree 2025" competition organised by National Handloom Development Corporation(NHDC) & Redefining the Roots Welfare Association- an initiative by Tale of a Trend" to celebrate National Handloom Day. Our students had an absolute blast showcasing their creativity and flair by draping and styling these stunning handloom sarees in unique and innovative ways. A Creative Beginning: Orientation Program 2025 for Fashion Design & Technology Students

The Department of Fashion Design & Technology hosted a vibrant Orientation Program for the new batch of Bachelor’s and Master’s students. The day began with a soulful Saraswati Vandana, followed by an inspiring address by HOD Ms. Renu Singh Malik, who motivated students to embrace their journey with passion, discipline, and creativity.

Department of fashion design organized a visit to "The Surajkund Mela" for students to understand the unique and rich diversity of the handicrafts, handlooms and cultural fabric of India, & it is the largest crafts fair showcasing folk performances, and global flavors. All the awarded artisans from different states had set up their workshops and stalls there. The visit’s main objective was to provide the students with exposure to the rich cultural heritage of India and to inspire them with traditional art and crafts. The department’s faculty guided students through the fair, explaining the intricate details of the different art forms. Students were also able to interact with the artisans and learn about their techniques and the challenges they faced in preserving their art form in the modern world.Students were particularly fascinated by the impressive embroidery section as they saw how the artisans used different stitches to create delicate patterns.The visit to Surajkund was an enriching experience for students.
