Course Objective

Information Technology is developing at an extraordinary speed. Through the application of information and communication technology, its scope and influence now reaches all the traditional areas of industry, commerce, government, education and emerging new markets such as the entertainment and consumer electronic industries. The rapid expansion of the development and applications of IT has led to a huge increase in demand for computer professionals.

The course is broadly based, covering the areas of computer science, software development and information systems, providing a good foundation for a rapidly changing industry. The relatively open structure of the course makes it feasible to offer new option modules as the need arises, while preserving the overall objectives of the course. In addition to the core area of object oriented software development, one can study a range of other approaches and paradigms, including the development of database systems and Internet applications. The sessions are practice based and include a substantial amount of programming work.

In Information Technology (IT), India has already built a valuable brand equity in the global markets. In IT - enabled services (ITES), India has emerged as the most preferred destination for Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), a key driver of growth for the Software Industry and the Services Sector.

India’s most priced resource in today’s knowledge economy is its readily available technical work force. The Information Technology Industry is the fastest growing segment of the Indian Economy.

According to NASSCOM – McKinsey report, annual revenue projections for India’s IT Industry in 2008 are USD 87 billion and market openings are emerging across four broad sectors: IT Services, Software Products, IT enabled services and e-Businesses thus creating a number of opportunities for young graduates in IT sector . Along with BPO, India is emerging as a hub of KPO (Knowledge Process Outsourcing). The demand for skilled professionals in these areas is going to be far more than the supply in the next decade.
