FM Community Radio

Radio is acknowledged to be a more versatile medium and a more suitable and affordable means of providing local communities with a voice of their own. JIMS is the First Private Sector Educational Institution in Delhi, to set up this Community Radio Station. The frequency allotted is "FM :96.9", and programmes in its initial phase are relayed for 4 hrs a day. This radio covers a surrounding area of 5 KM.

The programmes focus on issues relating to education, health, environment, youth, career, etc., along with community development.The objective of all programmes is to provide awareness to the community covered with medium of entertainment.

The students are encouraged to Conceive, Design & Broadcast their own programmes in a real life environment. All students of 4th, 5th and 6th semester are made to write two scripts each as part of their course content for Radio. This enables them to excel in specific areas of Radio such as :

They also got an opportunity to visit "The Governor House" where they had an interactive session with the Governor of Haryana followed by a seminar organized by Kurukshetra University )

Students of Journalism & Mass Communication often take part in Audience Based Shows on television. A few among them are :

  • Live Talk Show : Janmat TV had organized a Live Talk Show hosted by former Miss India Ms.Manpreet Brar at JIMS in association with the students of Journalism & Mass Communication.



















Documentary Films

Students have created their own documentaries with the ongoing support of faculty members & the institute.

  • "Moksh"

  • Based on the concept of emancipation, this religious documentary attempts to conceptualise Lord Krishna's sermon in Bhagvat Gita. A special screening of "Moksh" was conducted at JIMS. The occasion was graced by our Hon'ble Chairman Mr.Manish Gupta who emphasized on building and following cultural and religious values among students.

    • Shortlisted in International Students Film Festival held at I.P.University, New Delhi. Moksh was adjudged with "Special Jury Award"
    • Selected & screened in ' Student Production Category' at the International Spiritual Film Festival, 2006 held in Goa.
  • "Stained Innocence"

A Report on "Aakari Maut" - the last dismissal

A group of 12 students shot this feature film of 1 hour duration in the deserts of Rajasthan during September, 2005. A preview of the film was organized where it attained appreciation despite critical analysis. "Punjab Kesri" published a review of the film which encouraged the students a lot.

Media Seminar, Workshops & Debate are organized on regular basis to enhance the knowledge of students in practical fields of Media Operations.
  • Workshop On "Entertainment Films"
Students participated in this workshop and collected important tips of Camera Operations from ace director's like :
  • Mr.Shyam Benegal
  • Mr.Yash Chopra,
and other senior film Makers.
  • Debate on "Media has taken upon itself the role of opinion maker"
In order to have an understanding of positive & negative aspects of media, students under their faculty guidance organized an Inter- College Debate Competion in English on the subject - 'Media has taken upon itself the role of opinion maker'.
  • Media Seminar on "Operating Media - Problems & Challenges"

A seminar was organized by the Department of Mass Communication on"Operating Media : Problems and Challenges" at JaganNath Institute of Management Sciences, Rohini Campus.
The Seminar was inaugurated by Mr.Sudesh Kumar Jain, President, Punjab Kesari and was addressed by leading working journalist Ms. Shweta Ranjan, Chief Reporter, JANMAT. Key inputs were also given by :

Summer Training

Summer training is an important part of course curriculum. The students at the end of Semester IV are assigned to undergo Summer Training for a period of 6 - 8 weeks with reputed organizations in a wide spectrum of area. They submit the project report at the end of the training.

This process helps develop
  • a professional attitude,
  • sense of responsibility,
  • analytical ability,
  • leadership qualities,
  • gain knowledge from the experience of experts from the industry,etc.
